How it works
Net pay = gross pay minus pre-tax 401(k), federal income tax on the rest, FICA tax on all wages and state income tax. Dividing the yearly result by the number of paychecks gives each check.
Worked example
On 75,000 a year paid every two weeks with a 5 percent 401(k), the gross check is 2,884.62. After federal tax, FICA, a 4 percent state tax and the 401(k), take-home is roughly 2,147 per check.
Good to know
These are estimates for planning, not tax advice. Rates and limits change every year, so confirm the latest figures at irs.gov or with a tax professional.
