How it works
Claiming before full retirement age reduces the benefit by 5/9 of 1 percent per month for the first 36 months and 5/12 of 1 percent after that. Claiming after it adds 2/3 of 1 percent per month up to age 70.
Worked example
With a full benefit of 2,500 and a 67 FRA, claiming at 62 pays 1,750 a month and claiming at 70 pays 3,100 a month.
