Frequently asked questions
Is the image uploaded to a server?
No. The recognition runs in your browser. Only the open source engine and the language file are downloaded, never your image.
Why does the first run take longer?
The first time you use a language, your browser downloads the engine and the language data. After that it is faster, and the browser keeps them for next time.
Does it use an AI service or an API key?
No service, no key and no account. It uses the free open source Tesseract engine, which includes a small trained model that runs locally on your device. Nothing is sent to any AI provider.
How can I get a more accurate result?
Use a sharp, straight, well-lit image with dark text on a light background, pick the correct language, and crop away borders and shadows.
What is the difference from PDF to Text?
PDF to Text reads text that is already in the file. This tool reads pictures of text, such as a scanned page, using OCR.
Is there a page limit?
The tool reads up to 30 pages at a time to keep your browser fast. Split larger files first.
Is the Scanned PDF to Text (OCR) free?
Yes. It is free, needs no signup and works on any device.
