How to Calculate Zakat Step by Step
Published 30 October 2026 by Kloora Tools
Quick answer: add up your zakatable wealth (cash, savings, gold, silver, business stock, money owed to you), subtract short-term debts, and if the total is above nisab and you held it for one lunar year, pay 2.5 percent.
Nisab
Nisab is the minimum wealth before zakat is due. It is commonly given as 87.48 grams of gold or 612.36 grams of silver. Many scholars in Pakistan use the silver value because it is lower. Check what your scholar advises.
What counts
- Cash in hand and in bank accounts.
- Gold and silver, jewellery included, by the view you follow.
- Business stock and money owed to you that you expect to receive.
- Shares and investments held for trading.
What to subtract
Debts you must pay soon, such as bills and loan installments due.
Worked example
Savings 800,000 plus gold worth 400,000 plus money owed and expected 100,000, minus debts 100,000, gives 1,200,000. If this is above nisab and held a full lunar year, zakat is 1,200,000 x 2.5 percent = 30,000.
Steps with the calculator
- Open the Zakat Calculator.
- Enter the gold and silver price per gram for today.
- Fill in your assets and debts.
- Read the nisab check and the zakat amount.
Important
Zakat rules have scholarly differences, for example on jewellery and shares. This tool gives the arithmetic. For your own case, confirm with a trusted scholar.
